Definition Of:

S-video

Computer DictionaryMultimedia Dictionary
short for separated video, formats such as S-VHS and Hi8 that keep the brightness and color (luminance and chroma) as separate signals; also called Y/C video
Computer DictionaryDigital Video Dictionary
A consumer form of component video. Describes a system of plugs and jacks used to interconnect camcorders, VCRs and TV monitors, which keeps the chrominance (color) and luminance (brightness) information separate.

see Y/C video
Computer DictionarySound Escape Glossary
Using a 4-pin connector, an S-video jack transmits the chrominance (color) and luminance (brightness) portions of a video signal separately, for improved color accuracy and reduced distortion.
Computer DictionaryTelevision and Video Dictionary
A video signal transmitted as two components requiring two separate wires: luminance (technically referred to as Y) and color (C). Although commonly found on S-VHS VCR's, this signal is not limited to such VCR's. Note: The C portion is already modulated on a subcarrier, 3.58 MHz (approx) for NTSC as if to be combined with the Y portion to become composite video be, except not already bandwidth limited as needed to meet specs. Note: S-video can represent interlaced video signals only.
Computer DictionaryFOLDOC Computer Dictionary
<multimedia> A video format offering a higher quality signal than composite video, but a lower quality than component video. This mid-level format divides the signal into two channels - luminance and chrominance.
